The Nance County Spelling Bee took place on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Fullerton Public School. Participants from Twin River Public School were seventh graders:

Carson Kershaw, Ian Litz, Sterylng Pearson, and Dejah Yosten. The eighth grade participants were Noah Anderson, Chuck Davenport, Kade Lund, and Karly Konwinski.

The participants had to take a written test first, consisting of one hundred words. After the grading, the top six spellers then participated in an oral spelling contest. After five rounds, two spellers were left; they were Carson Kershaw and Dejah Yosten. These two spellers went seven rounds before missing a word. Carson Kershaw was the Spelling Champion! He won on the word “suburbs”. Dejah Yosten was the Champion Runner-up!

Carson is the son of Brian and Tania Kershaw and Dejah is the daughter of Terrance and Robyn Yosten. Congratulations to our champion and runner-up and to all of the students who participated in the contest!
