Welcome Letter

Hello, for those of you who don’t know me, my name is Tara Urkoski and I am the school nurse here at Twin River. This is my second year of being the school nurse and I love it!! Last year I was here Monday-Friday from 830-1230 but this year, I am here full time. My hours are Monday-Friday from 730-330.  I am primarily in Genoa but I do get down to Silver Creek a few times a week and I am available to go down there whenever they need me to address any medical concerns. Some of my responsibilities during the day are: dispensing medications to students, insulin checks and administration, I go into classrooms and discuss the importance of washing our hands, brushing our teeth, I do a personal hygiene discussion and we offer a puberty talk to the 4th graders and, of course, I take care of all the bumps, bruises, headaches, tummy aches and scrapes that occur during the day.

**Important note on medications at school:

If your child needs to take medication at school there are a few things we have to have before we can dispense them.  OTC (over the counter) medications these are: Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Pepto, cough drops and first aid ointments.  All these medications need to have
parental consent before we can dispense them.  We have the forms available at school and I am hoping to get them uploaded to the Twin River page as well.  Prescription medications, these also have a form that needs filled out. The prescription must be in the prescription bottle with the students name and medication on it.  ALL MEDICATIONS (regardless if it is OTC or prescription) NEED TO BE DISPENSED IN THE NURSES OFFICE.  If any medication comes to school in a zip lock bag or an unmarked container, we will NOT dispense it at school, it will be sent back home.

Some things that are up and coming in the nurse’s office are:

Flu Shots and health screenings. Notes on both will be coming home very soon. Flu shots will be offered at all sites, including PreK the week of October 19th.  We have to have consent and payment before we will give any student the flu shot. Flu shots will be $15.00 again this year.

If you have any questions regarding any of this, please give me a call at 402-993-2510.
